Our Sustainable Future?
Invitation – Circular Economy Huon, 17 October 2023
Our Sustainable Future? – Thursday 19 Oct, 19.00-20.30, Huonville Town Hall
Tasmania is currently developing a sustainability strategy, called ‘Tasmania Positive’. The deadline for submissions has recently been extended to 20 October and we urge you to complete the online survey at https://www.sustainability.
To coincide with the development of this strategy, Circular Economy Huon has brought together three speakers with different perspectives on what sustainability means, and how Tasmanians can address our sustainability challenges in a rapidly changing world:
- Cameron McLennan, Project Manager for the Tasmanian Sustainability Strategy, will describe how the strategy is being developed and introduce some of the themes arising.
- Jeff Malpas, Distinguished Professor Emeritus (UTAS) will promote the need for an ethical framework to underpin any successful sustainable system.
- Dr Jennifer Sanger, ecologist and science communicator with The Tree Projects and the Tasmanian Independent Science Council, will discuss some of the bigger hurdles to Tasmania truly achieving sustainability.
The short presentations will be followed by a facilitated panel discussion and Q&A. We will have specialists on hand who can address broader issues such as modern monetary theory, steady state systems, and achieving circularity in different sectors such as transport and waste.
The event is called ‘Our Sustainable Future’, and takes place at Huonville Town Hall, Thursday 19 October, from 7pm through to 8.30pm. Some simple refreshments will be available and there will be time to chat informally following the main program.
Please register at: https://our-sustainable-future.eventbrite.com.au so we can plan for the numbers attending. While the event is free, a $5 donation will help to cover Circular Economy Huon’s costs.
