Media release – Destination West Coast, 20 June 2023

Queenstown wins the Tasmania ‘Top Small Town’ in Tassie’s Top Tourism Towns competition for 2023!

Destination West Coast, a local business group based in the west, is thrilled to announce that Queenstown has won the Small Town category in this year’s Tassie Top Tourism Town competition.

The category, sponsored by local travel business, Tasmanian Vacations, is the second award in as many years for the committee, who partnered with West Coast Council to produce the 2023 entry, as well as 2022’s Strahan entry, which won its category at a state and national level.

“We’re thrilled with this exciting win and believe it goes to show how much the west coast region has going for it,” says Jo-Ann Kerr, President of Destination West Coast, “Queenstown has seen a rejuvenation over the last few years and is a special place, with a buzzing arts community and a hive of mountain bike activity.”

Committee representatives from World Heritage Cruises, West Coast Wilderness Railway and NRMA partnered with the local council to generate the entry, which was awarded at Parliament House in Hobart this afternoon.

Stanley, in the north-west, took out this year’s Tiny Town award, while Devonport took the Top Town spot. All three entries now go to the national competition and compete against 160 towns of all sizes nationwide.
