Hobart Mayoral candidate facing defamation charges
A Hobart City Council candidate campaigning on a platform of landlords’ rights could face civil action for defamation.
The proceedings against Ms Louise Elliot, who hopes to become Hobart’s Lord Mayor, follow publication of a number of claims and statements on social media in recent days.
The action is being pursued by Thomas Ellison, a company director and former candidate for election to the Launceston City Council.
Mr Ellison said he intends to pursue Ms Elliot for significant financial damages.
