Greens Want Debate on Refugee Policy
Media release – Senator Nick McKim, The Greens, 21 April 2022
Greens challenge Labor and Liberal parties to debate refugee policy
The Greens have challenged the Labor and Liberal parties to a debate on refugee and immigration policy.
“Last night’s ‘leaders’ debate’ showed that the major parties are currently engaged in a race to the bottom on their mistreatment of people seeking asylum,” Greens spokesperson for Immigration and Citizenship Senator Nick McKim said.
“The Australian people deserve so much better than this.”
“The Greens have been steadfast in our opposition to offshore detention and turning boats around at sea.”
“I have today written to Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews and Labor’s Kristina Keneally inviting them to a debate, at a time and place of their choosing.”
“If the Labor and Liberal parties have faith in their policies, then they should have no problem in agreeing to a debate.”
