West Coast Wilderness Railway stranding incident

A West Coast Wilderness Railway diesel locomotive unfortunately partially slipped the rails at low speed at around 10:30am today.

We are happy to report that there have been no injuries to passengers or crew and there is no obvious damage to the train

The incident happened on a remote section of track near Camp Spur meaning access is limited to rail only.

Another WCWR train is bringing the passengers out and several families with small children have been brought out using the available hi-rail vehicle (modified 4WD capable of driving on rail).

The passengers are being well taken care of with food and refreshments brought in.

It is estimated that all remaining passengers will be returned to Strahan by 7:00pm.

All guests will be given a full refund.

The incident has been reported to the National Rail Safety Regulator, and investigated in accordance with national rail safety law requirements.
