ABORIGINAL HOUSING WARNS 60 YEAR OLD ABORIGINAL MAN OF EVICTION MONDAY MORNING

POLICE USED THIS WEEK TO WARN ABORIGINAL MAN

TAC HAS CALLED FOR ANOTHER UNIT TO BE FOUND FOR MAN BEFORE EVICTION

I have written to Aboriginal Community Housing State Operations Manager Jason Williams asking him to suspend any use of police to evict a 60 year old Aboriginal tenant from a unit at 4 Haig Street Mowbray (email attached).

Aboriginal Housing is to house Aboriginal people, not make them homeless. Earlier this week, the tenant David Sainty, told me police were brought to the unit by Aboriginal Community Housing when David was told to vacate by Monday 12th.

David was told to move in with his brother in a one bedroom unit. But his brother would be in breach of his Aboriginal housing agreement to have anyone else stay there.

When David has been homeless, he has slept in the bush behind Silverdome. He was hospitalised last year with heart problems and general run-down condition.

The TAC has offered support for David if the housing authorities provide him with a roof over his head.

I will be attending 4 Haig St Monday morning lobbying for police not to be used against Aborigines by Aboriginal Community Housing.
