Sports Entertainment Network has unveiled details of its Tasmanian expansion, announcing three new radio signals across Tasmania’s biggest cities and a local content strategy led by Australian cricket captain and Hobart local Tim Paine and Tasmanian and Richmond star Jack Riewoldt.

SEN today revealed a localised version, to be known as 1629 SEN Hobart, was now available on 1629 AM in the apple isle and on their app. The network has also secured distribution for its SENTrack format, into northern Tasmanian towns Launceston and Devonport. SENTrack northern Tasmania, as it will be known, is available in both towns on 1611AM and on the SEN app.

The moves come ahead of a deeper commitment to local content, with Paine and Riewoldt to co-host a Friday morning show across the state supporting Tasmanian sport.

The show will debut on Friday August 6 and run for an initial 6 weeks in the lead up to AFL finals and The Ashes summer of cricket.

Hobart local Boyd Parker has been appointed as Hobart’s head of sales.

Paine said he was super excited to help create a louder voice for Tasmanian sport within his show and across the network.

“I can’t wait,” he said. “We are going to have a great mix of local, national, and international sport in our show. It’s going to be great fun and really cool for all things Tassie sport.”

Riewoldt is excited to be able to bring his knowledge of Tasmania to the airwaves and co -host alongside cricketer Tim Paine.

‘’I love that we come from different sporting codes but are both proud Tasmanians,” Riewoldt said. I had an incredible childhood in Hobart I look back at growing up in Bellerive and my years playing football for Clarence, I know first-hand how important sport is to Tasmanians, how passionate they are. I am excited to find those great local personalities and share their stories with our audience.”

Sports Entertainment Network chief executive Craig Hutchison said Tasmania was a proud sporting state that deserved its own platform and a larger voice on the national sporting stage.

“So much great sport is taking place in Tasmania – from the return of AFL football this season, to the pending arrival of the Tasmanian Jackjumpers, the popularity of the Hobart Hurricanes and beyond,” Hutchison said.

“We are rapt that Tim has joined our journey – he has loved being able to be home while awaiting test cricket’s return and his love of Tasmanian cricket, football and beyond will be invaluable.

“He is a very talented broadcaster already and we look forward to seeing that grow in the years to come on SEN.

“Jack is already a proven media talent with a big future on the airwaves, and his love of Tassie and all sports is a unique combination.

Hutchison said that their Victorian channel, which carries Melbourne content, would remain on the SEN app as an alternative.

The new distribution of 1629 SEN Hobart and 1611 SENTrack Northern Tasmania are available from today.
