Entries Open for History Book Prize
Entries are open for one of Tasmania’s most prestigious book prizes – the $25,000 Dick and Joan Green Family Award for Tasmanian History.
The award is administered by the University of Tasmania and recognises high-quality published work that makes a significant contribution to an understanding of Tasmania’s past. The prize seeks to celebrate and promote books on Tasmanian history and cultural heritage, including biographies and historical fiction.
The Dick and Joan Green Family Award for Tasmanian History was established through the philanthropic support of the Green family in 2016 to commemorate the contribution of Dick and Joan Green to Tasmanian culture and history.
The judging panel is chaired by Professor Kate Darian-Smith, the Executive Dean and Pro Vice-Chancellor of the College of Arts, Law and Education at the University of Tasmania.
“This important award honours and draws national attention to the achievement of authors researching Tasmanian history and cultural heritage,” Professor Darian-Smith said.
“The prize has a strong record of attracting entries of a very high standard and we look forward to reading this calibre of work again this time around.”
Eligible books will have been published between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2021, with the winner announced in June 2022.
Entries close on September 30, 2021. The closing date will be preceded by a public lecture on September 23 featuring the winners of the 2020 prize, Tim Bonyhady and Greg Lehman, authors of The National Picture: The Art of Tasmania’s Black War.
