EPURON NEEDS TO COME CLEAN ON SALE OF TASMANIAN ASSETS
Epuron Pty Ltd, the Sydney-based company with 4 wind farm development projects in Tasmania, is apparently for sale. In a report by ‘Inframation News’ dated 23 March, Epuron’s assets across a number of regions in Australia are reportedly on the market, with potential buyers currently remaining undisclosed.
The No Turbine Action Group (NTAG) has called on Epuron to come clean on its plans to sell its assets across Tasmania, particularly the St Patricks Plains Wind Farm, proposed for Tasmania’s iconic Central Highlands.
David Ridley, Chair of NTAG, said the news of the potential sale of Epuron’s assets came as no surprise to most people.
“NTAG has always maintained that Epuron has no long-term interest in developing projects in Tasmania, only wants to make a quick dollar, and has little appetite for genuine community consultation. NTAG has concerns about foreign government business ownership of wind farms,” Mr Ridley said.
“NTAG and many others that have concerns are calling on Epuron to come clean about what their plans are for the St Patricks Plain Wind Farm,” Mr Ridley said.
NTAG also highlights that, to date, Epuron has no social license for the St Patrick’s Plain Wind Farm and any potential buyer needs to beware.
“Epuron has not gained the trust and approval of the community to give the company social license for its St Patricks Plains Wind Farm,” Mr Ridley said.
“Strong community opposition exists because the proposed wind farm is in the wrong location. The Highlands Lakes area needs to be kept unique and the area is home to over 28 nationally endangered flora and fauna species including Australia’s largest raptor – the Tasmanian wedge tailed eagle,” Mr Ridley said.
“Any prospective buyer of the St Patrick’s Plain Wind Farm project needs to beware! The community does not support it and strong opposition to the project will continue, as will efforts to have the project shelved.”
“NTAG again calls on Epuron to come clean with the Tasmanian people and the community of the Central Highlands in relation to the sale of the proposed St Patricks Plain Wind Farm,” Mr Ridley said.
The No Turbine Action Group Inc (NTAG) was formed in 2019 in opposition to the St Patricks Plains Wind Farm Development in the Central Highlands of Tasmania.
