Activists take to overpass calling on voters to focus on climate

Extinction Rebellion Tasmania will be out in force on the Mount Nelson overpass this Wednesday morning as they fly their flags to put the climate and ecological crisis at the forefront of people’s consciousness in the lead up to the state election.

In response to being met with frequent taunts of ‘GET A JOB!’, activists will be wearing placards stating their occupations to counter this commonly held stereotype.

“We are ordinary working people who simply care about a liveable planet for our kids’ futures and for all the life that sustains us,” said media spokesperson Jackie McDonald.

“We are hairdressers, professors and scientists. We work in the public sector, in retail and in hospitality. We care about the climate crisis and will continue to call on governments to address this emergency”

This colourful action aims to remind voters of the urgency of decisive political action on the climate crisis as the election looms. “Climate change is happening now. The evidence is clear,” said Jackie McDonald
