War Animal Remembrance Day

Posted on

War Animal Remembrance Day – hosted by the Northern Tasmanian Light Horse Troop – will be on Saturday 27 February 2021 at 10.30 am at the Campbell Town Cenotaph.

Join us in honouring the contribution of all animals that served in time of war.

The Australian Government officially sanctioned a special day for animals that served during military conflicts, beginning on 24 February 2019.

2020 saw the first such ceremony of this type held in Tasmania when an animal memorial plaque was unveiled at the Campbell Town Memorial Oval.

Holding the ceremony on a weekend gives many more people the opportunity to attend.

During conflicts animals have fulfilled many roles such as regimental mascots, deliver supplies, messages and detect explosive devices saving many soldiers’ lives.

This event is supported by RSL Tasmania.
