Ten Days on the Island is calling for volunteers, dancers, artists and poets to be part of the Festival in March 2021 as they “celebrate our unique, innovative and creative identity.”

There are plenty of ways to participate in the festival and the Ten Days organisers are keen to get you involved ahead of their full program launch on 28 January.

The festival are after volunteers from the state’s three regional heartlands: west and north-west, north and north-east and the south to help deliver the festival program.

“Our volunteers are the heart of our Festival and there are opportunities across visual arts and community events and general support for events,” said a spokesperson.

There are also opportunities for Tasmanians to add their creativity, whether participating in the opening event, taking a design workshop or entering the inaugural Liffey Youth Poetry Prize.

Ten Days is on the hunt for dancers participate in mapali – Dawn Gathering, a Welcome to Country as the sun rises over Burnie to mark the opening of the Festival. Dancers over 12 years of age are invited to join hundreds of performers for the large-scale opening event on the foreshore on Friday 5 March 2021.

They are also seeking local arts enthusiasts, school groups and arts groups to participate in online creative workshops with Goldberg Aberline Studios. The creative outcomes from the workshops will be brought to life during the event. Participants will be supplied with all the materials they will need – no previous arts experience is necessary; you just need an internet connection and a device to join the workshop via video call.

Are you or do you know a budding young poet? Ten Days is launching the inaugural Liffey Youth Poetry Prize, offering the chance for young writers to showcase new and existing works alongside luminaries of the Australian literary scene as part of Ten Days on the Island 2021.
