visiting Hydro sites – Hydro Tasmania are running a survey of people who visit their facilities or recreation sites. Responses will help determine what improvements could be done at the sites. Those entering their details in the survey will go into the draw to win 2 nights’ accommodation at Pedder Wilderness Lodge. Find the survey here.

Renovation Rumble – Rural Alive and Well are inviting tradespeople, businesses and community members to build a new space for their northern team. The Reno Rumble is set out as a collective renovation event. “Whether it’s plasterers, electricians, chippies or interior designers, we are seeking collaboration to make a truly community-built hub. We are set to launch our new office with our youth program and some new surprises in Mental Health week. The theme this year is what role we can all play in mental health, and we feel this is an excellent example that no matter what skills you have, you actually can make a difference in your own way.”
The event will take place from 11 September through to 20 September at  86a Main Road, Perth. Registrations of interest should be sent to adminassist@rawtas.com.au.

end of rental tenancies survey – Shelter Tas is supporting a new national investigation into private rental tenancies by Shelter SA, in partnership with National Shelter, and other Shelter organisations across Australia. They invite you to share your experience about renting by answering a few short questions, focused on the end of rental tenancies. Responses are anonymous, and your answers will help with understanding how people experience the private rental system from all perspectives, so as to to make it better. You can find the survey here.

business continuity help – the second round of the COVID-19 Small Business Continuity Grant program will provide $750 each to eligible businesses to engage a qualified specialist to advise on business continuity planning. The program is now open and will close at 12 noon on Monday 7 September 2020 or when the funding has been fully allocated, whichever occurs first.

move away from home for study – Have you moved from rural Tasmania to study at UTas. An Honours student in Sociology is seeking first year uni students aged 18-24 to participate in a  study about what it’s like to move away from home for uni. The aim is to learn more about how young rural Tasmanians feel when they move to the city (for access to any of UTas’ campuses), how they fit in and how UTas can potentially provide specific support to its local rural students. Find out more here.

education regulation – public consultation has now commenced on the Review of Education Regulation with the release of a Discussion Paper. The Review is the state government’s next step in modernising education regulation in Tasmania so that it is re-designed to better meet the needs of children and young people and prepares them well for the future. The aim of the review is not to change what the entities do, rather it is about improving how they are delivering their existing functions including:

  • A modern governance framework that allows an agile approach to delivering essential functions;
  • A sustainable, transparent, and more efficient funding model;
  • A model that drives the adoption of better practice regulation focused on delivering educational outcomes for learners; and
  • A model which ensures the provision of independent advice to the Minister.

All stakeholders and community members are encouraged to engage in the consultation process and have their say. Further information, including access to a copy of the Discussion Paper, is available here.

biosecurity – nominations for round 2 of the 2020 Australian Biosecurity Awards are now open. This round has 4 new award categories that are open for nominations:
