Well, We have been flat out this week to get all our displays ready for the Wooden Boat Festival 2019.
There are three of our delightful dinghies installed at PW1 (the Egeria tender, “Periwinkle” and “Sea Slug” Sabot Class sailing dinghy) along with the wonderful 1/3 scale wooden model of the “Queequeg”, a whale boat as used in colonial times (made by Philip Fowler).
And in the Carnegie Gallery, we have opened our latest exhibition from Colin Thomas’ amazing collection, “Scrimshaw – One Man’s Obsession“.
This is a truly amazing display of the mariner’s art of turning whale bone in a huge variety of art work, everyday tools and knick knacks. It is one of the finest collections in the world, suropassing many institutuional collections.
As a special treat, Colin will be giving talks on his collection and the history of whaling from Hobart in the musuem at 2.30 pm THIS WEEKEND on Saturday and Sunday.
We are open every day of the Festival from 9 to 5. So please come in to see this amazing exhibition, along with our Shipwreck exhibition.
AND DON’T FORGET TO COME ON BOARD THE WESTWARD AND MAY QUEEN IN CON DOCK DURING THE FESTIVAL.
