The hard right will HATE this …

lindsay, we really must stop.

The hard right has gone out of their way (again and again and again) to tell us they don’t like it. They’ve spent countless hours questioning it in parliamentary hearings, trying to pick holes, and furiously complaining about it to the media. What a shame it aggravates them so!

Know what I’m talking about, lindsay? This bewildering apparatus is GetUp’s annual member survey: A simple online form where you, me and a million other GetUp members can have our say on GetUp’s priorities. What should GetUp aim to achieve this upcoming federal election, lindsay?

Click here to have your say on GetUp’s 2019 Federal Election Strategy.

In the last federal election in 2016, GetUp members voted to:

  1. Focus our resources in a selection of electorates where powerful, hard right MPs were blocking progress on the issues we care about, like climate change, renewables and health funding.
  1. Prioritise issues like funding for renewable energy, stopping the privatisation of Medicare, and reversing $50 billion in hospital cuts.
  1. Hand out strategic How-to-Vote cards for the first time, which judged candidates on their commitments to the policy outcomes we most care about.

This underpinned GetUp’s most impactful election effort to date. Together, we were instrumental in kicking out hard right blocker MPs Andrew Nikolic in Bass, Jamie Briggs in Mayo, Louise Markus in Macquarie (to name a few) and reducing Peter Dutton’s margin in Dickson to a 1.6% slither.

We sent a loud message that if you’re blocking progress on issues we care about, you’ll pay at the ballot box. And we’re just warming up: we need to go even bigger to achieve real and lasting progress on our issues in 2019.

What issues should GetUp concentrate on in the 2019 federal election, and how should we prioritise our resources?

Have your say!

GetUp’s strategy team will use your feedback to build our 2019 election effort. We’ll also consult with voters on the ground, over the phone and online to draw up our most successful campaign yet.

It’s time for our movement to fire up, get organised, and prioritise what we want to achieve together this upcoming election year.

It starts now,
Paul, for the GetUp team

PS. In 2018, GetUp members fought to get more than 100 #KidsOffNauru along with their families, warded off countless attacks by the hard right to stifle our people power, and launched campaigns to unseat the toxic politics of Peter Dutton and Tony Abbott. Just imagine what we could achieve this coming election year — share your ideas with GetUp here.
