TASMANIAN ANIMAL SAVE TO HOLD CHRISTMAS VIGILS AT SLAUGHTERHOUSES
Friday 14th 12-2pm Inghams Slaughterhouse, 82 Main rd Sorell
Animal rights organisation Tasmanian Animal Save will today commence a week of peaceful actions, holding vigils at slaughterhouses across the state in memory of the billions of land and marine animals slaughtered throughout the year.
“People are largely unaware of the sheer scale of slaughter in this country, and remain blissfully ignorant of their complicity in this ongoing atrocity.” -Kristy Alger, Tas Animal Save spokesperson.
The week of action is part of the global Save Movement network’s “Wake Up World Christmas Campaign” which will involve actions by save chapters targeting slaughterhouses around the world.
“Christmas is promoted as a time of peace and goodwill on Earth, a time for family and celebration. Yet almost every table will be laden with the corpses of beings whose lives were violently taken, whose families were destroyed on the kill floor. How can we celebrate peace with such violence on our plates?” – Kristy Alger
Activists will lay flowers at the entries to selected slaughterhouses across Tasmania and pause in reflection at these sites of extreme violence, commencing at the Inghams slaughterhouse in Sorell.
“We encourage everyone to embrace compassion and justice this Christmas, and begin by celebrating at a table of peace.” – Kristy Alger
