It has come to the attention of Shooters Fishers and Farmers Tasmania, of the potential closing to “Public Access” of the section of road, from Links Road to the North Eastern end of Craigbourne Dam.
Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party, its members and followers, totally OPPOSE this closure, of the only angler access to that particular end of the lake, and its available foreshore fishing.
The land owner issues haven’t really been crystallized, and it is our belief that so-called problems, can be addressed with proper consultation and negotiation.
Craigbourne Dam is a year-round fishery, in close proximity to Hobart and its surrounds, and offers anglers a “put and take fishery”. with very short travel times. It’s a lake that introduces children, and many new anglers to the thrills of trout fishing.
Its surprising Southern Midlands Council does not take into account the economic and social benefit of attracting so anglers and families to the region, spending money at small local businesses.
It is counterproductive for the Inland Fisheries Service, who invest so much in the stocking programme of Craigbourne, only to see Council prevent angler access.
We urge the Council to take into account the value of Craigbourne to the region, and re consider this proposal, working forward to keep angler access OPEN, year-round.
