Australian Education Union Tasmanian Branch

AEU Tasmania’s Branch Executive, comprising serving teachers and support staff, met today to discuss the Government’s new offer for teachers.

Roz Madsen, State Manager said:

“Elected teacher and support staff Executive members call on the government to negotiate on the details over the summer so a much-improved offer could be put to members early in 2019.”

“There are a number of concerns with the offer such as no caps on class sizes, no movement on 2% — which relegates Tasmania’s experienced teachers to lowest paid — and significant lack of detail in the offer.”

“The Government made a take-it-or-leave-it offer without giving teachers at the table the opportunity to negotiate changes or receive further clarification or details and that’s what we need to happen now, as a matter of urgency.”
