The Sound Of Peace …

Posted on

Launceston Alive, Scripture Union Tasmania, City Networks, WayFM and many churches of Launceston invite you to join in inviting everyone to “The Sound Of Peace”, a public event commemorating the centenary of the Armistice, which officially ended World War 1.

On that day, one hundred years ago, the churches in cities across the world hosted one of history’s largest street parties, as people came together to celebrate the end of a tragic & devastating war which had caused 16 million deaths and 37 million casualties.  Church bells rang out and banners were raised in thankfulness to God that the war had finally ended.

In commemoration, on Sunday November 11th , beginning at 11am in Launceston’s Prince’s Square, there will be 2 minutes of silence before Launceston’s Church Bells again ring out to commence a whole-hearted celebration. This is a multicultural celebration that acknowledges that peace is wanted everywhere on this world.

Please join us in finding innovative ways to spread this invitation to everyone of all cultures, to gather in Prince’s Square to celebrate with free food, free jumping castle, fun activities, music and dance performances for the whole family.  Musicians include multi-award winning singer, song-writer and instrumentalist Peter Shurley, Steve Cooper, Soul Revival and West African Singers. City Baptist Church will be hosting a prayer journey, with several stations for personal reflection, intercession and worship.

The event includes a corporate peace-festival of music and God’s Word at St John’s Anglican Church from 3:30pm.
