Wesley Vale’s $56 million aqua feed production facility gets tick of approval
BioMar Australia’s $56 million aqua feed production facility in the state’s north west has received the final tick of approval from Latrobe Council, marking an important milestone in the projects future.
Now the 14-month construction phase can generate up to 250 contractor jobs in the region.
In December 2017, BioMar Australia announced plans to develop a world-class state of the art fish feed production facility in Wesley Vale, providing a significant boost to the local economy, job creation and Tasmania’s growing aquaculture industry.
BioMar Australia Technical Customer Account Manager Alasdair Bradley said he was delighted to receive the Latrobe Council’s DA approval, allowing the project to take the all-important next steps.
“As part of the DA approval process, the Environment Protection Authority approved the Development Proposal and Environmental Management Plan, ensuring BioMar’s production facility meets all required environmental responsibilities and practices,” Mr Bradley said.
“The DA approval is also an important marker of industry, local council and community support for our organisations expansion into Australia, and importantly Tasmania.”
Mr Bradley said BioMar would be in a position to award a civil works contract to an Australian firm within the next few weeks, with ground works to kick off following their commencement.
“The site’s redundant facilities have been dismantled and it is now ready for work to start on the new production building,” he said.
“During the 14-month construction phase, up to 250 contractors will be required.
“We are also currently in the process of hiring more staff to join our current team on the ground in Tasmania.
“BioMar have been in ongoing conversations with the local residential and business community and will be hosting a community drop in information session on Saturday, 18 August for those interested in taking a site tour and finding out more about the projects progress.”
