Cricket Australia matter

I welcome the finding by Tasmania Police yesterday in relation to the complaint from the Labor Party.
As I have said all along, I absolutely refute any claims that I passed on private medical records or any information that was not in the public domain. I simply cannot have done so as I do not have access to Ms Williamson’s private medical information.
I knew of Ms Williamson’s personal experiences on this issue because of what had been put into the public domain via Ms Williamson’s Twitter.
It is important to remember that I was contacted by Mr Cummins who wanted to apologise for Ms Williamson’s use of Twitter, not the other way round. During that discussion I told Mr Cummins that while I was not aware of the tweet he rang me to apologise for, I was aware of other tweets from Ms Williamson, including where she had made it public that she had had a surgical termination.
To be very clear, I was aware of a specific tweet of 28 May 2018, some weeks before Mr Cummins called me, where Ms Williamson tweeted the following public statement under her own name:
“So you share your story, hoping it convinces the gov to act urgently & 5 months later – NOTHING. NO meeting with Premier. NO results. Thanks for helping tell it as it is @ginarush @rhianawhitson @susanfahey @chelobyrne @jacquieo75 @samanthamaiden @sallyrugg #auspol #politas”
This tweet shared a link to a Buzzfeed media article dated 12 March 2018. A follow up Buzzfeed article of 14 March stated that the woman referred to in this Buzzfeed article was a former staffer to the Premier.
I note that it has been reported in the media, specifically the Mercury on 31 July 2018, that on “May 28: Ms Williamson tweets criticism of the Government for failing to act on abortion services after she shared her personal story”
I am not sure how I can be accused by Labor of ‘disclosing’ private information which was made public on Twitter.
Mr Cummins rang me because he was concerned that I would interpret Ms Williamson’s comments as an attack on me by Cricket Tasmania. My point was that anybody who had seen Ms Williamson’s tweets, as I had, would appreciate that her contribution was a personal one and that it was understandable that she was passionate about the issue.
I expressed that as a politician I am used to public criticism and as Mr Cummins has stated, that I was happy to forgive and forget the tweet Mr Cummins rang me to apologise for. As has already been established, I made no attempt to influence Ms Williamson’s employment status.
In fact, I asked Mr Cummins to understand that the Government was unreservedly willing to keep working positively with Cricket Australia / Tasmania and was not seeking any apology from Ms Williamson.
The fact is that since the election Labor has had absolutely nothing to contribute in terms of policy and so have consistently resorted to personal attacks on members of the Government.
