Architect of flawed gun policy cannot have a role in new inquiry
• Hodgman must rule Hidding out from any role in inquiry
• Inappropriate for Hidding to have any influence on firearms policy
Will Hodgman must rule out the appointing the architect of his fatally flawed gun policy Rene Hidding to the proposed House of Assembly inquiry into firearms, Shadow Minister for Police Shane Broad said.
“As Minister for Police, Mr Hidding provided inaccurate advice to the Premier that the draft changes did not contravene the national firearms agreement – that fact is no longer disputed, even by the government,” Dr Broad said.
“The policy was designed to be Mr Hidding’s farewell legacy to his supporters. But what it has really done is render him a completely inappropriate appointment to any committee considering this very serious matter.
“Mr Hidding has an obvious bias towards regulation of firearms legislation. He should never again be allowed to influence firearms policy.”
