Wet and windy weather as cold fronts cross Tasmania
• Tasmania will experience wet and windy weather from today through the weekend as a series of cold fronts cross the state.
• A Severe Weather Warning is current for the north and west as damaging winds are expected this evening into Friday morning.
• Damaging north to northwesterly winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts around 90 km/h are possible – isolated thunderstorms may briefly bring gusts in excess of 100 km/h.
• The strong and gusty winds are expected to continue Saturday and Sunday across parts of Tasmania.
• A Flood Watch is current for north east catchments with widespread two-day rainfall totals of 40–60 mm forecast for the north and west and up to 90 mm possible in elevated areas.
• River rises are expected at some locations due to the forecast rainfall, which may result in minor flooding at some locations from early Friday morning.
• Flood watch and warning products will be reassessed this afternoon. Please stay up-to-date at www.bom.gov.au/tas/warnings/
• Snow to fall above 900 metres on Friday (700 metres for the south west) and 700 metres on Saturday.
