The Briefing: Wilson to appeal conviction

Archbishop of Adelaide Philip Wilson will appeal his conviction for concealing child sexual abuse after being sentenced to 12 months’ detention.
Wilson, 67, said “I am entitled to exercise my legal rights and to follow the due process of law” and that “I do not intend to resign at this time,” although he would resign if his appeal was unsuccessful and he has stood aside from his duties. Speaking yesterday, prime minister Malcolm Turnbull joined widespread calls for Wilson to step down, saying “given the outcome of the case, the lawsuit, the prosecution, he should resign” …
