The Briefing … Archbishop sentenced for ignoring abuse

Catholic Archbishop of Adelaide Philip Wilson has been sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment for concealing child sexual abuse.
Wilson, 67, was sentenced in Newcastle local court on Tuesday, and will likely serve his term in home detention. Abuse survivor Peter Gogarty said he was “disappointed” at the verdict, saying it “is probably letting him off a little bit too lightly”. In 1976, two altar boys told Wilson they had been repeatedly abused by priest James Fletcher. One of the boys claimed Wilson accused him of lying, as Fletcher was “a good bloke” …
