Health still number one issue for Tasmanians after Braddon by-election
• Tasmanians understand Michael Ferguson not taking health seriously
• Premier now needs to start listening, prioritise investment in health and hold Minister to account
Premier Hodgman must finally start listening to Tasmanians and prioritise access to adequate health care after the clear message sent by voters in Braddon at the weekend.
Shadow Health Minister Sarah Lovell said the crisis in the health and hospital system remained the number one issue for Tasmanians and it was time for Premier Hodgman to step in and provide solutions where Health Minister Michael Ferguson has comprehensively failed.
“The clear and consistent message from Braddon voters was that they have been badly let down by Premier Hodgman and Michael Ferguson who have created the health crisis and refused to fix it,” Ms Lovell said.
“Michael Ferguson has failed to treat health and the crisis in Tasmania’s hospitals with any urgency and Tasmanians expect Premier Hodgman to act and appoint a Minister who actually cares.
“Tasmanians – particularly Tasmanians in regional areas – need access to health care in hospitals and they need better access to specialists and GPs.
“They need investment in basic, essential services and that is not being delivered under a Liberal Government which is responsible for frequent escalation level four situations in hospitals, mental health patients waiting up to six days in emergency rooms and serious code blacks being called on this Minister’s watch.”
