A statement regarding another cosy deal with Crown Casino

Posted on

The community should be outraged at the Victorian Government’s deal with Crown Casino to allow as many as 1,000 poker machines to take bigger bets and have faster spin rates.

The fact is that poker machines are an incredibly dangerous product at the best of times, and so for the Victorian Government to be letting some operate virtually unrestricted shows a complete disregard for the community and for the thousands of gambling addicts who use the machines every year.

Moreover there remains the unresolved allegations of the use of plastic picks to hold down buttons and the issuing of multiple loyalty cards which I raised earlier this year with the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation. For the Victorian Government to now be giving Crown Casino a free pass just goes to show that they couldn’t care less about gambling addicts or about the harm caused by poker machines.

Andrew will be available to discuss this matter at 12:15pm at Parliament House lawns, Hobart.
