The Briefing … Government ignored live exports advice

A government-commissioned review into the live export trade effectively recommended an immediate ban that was subsequently ignored.
The snap review, ordered by agriculture minister David Littleproud in April, recommended tighter rules on permitted heat stress levels that would have made the live export trade unviable when they came into force on July 1. RSPCA Australia representative Bidda Jones said the government had ignored the recommendation for political reasons, telling Fairfax “had the integrity of this review not been compromised through political intervention, these summer shipments would not be departing” …
