Qantas shortlisting no surprise
Today Federal Member for Bass, Ross Hart said he was not surprised by the announcement that Launceston is one of nine regional cities to be shortlisted for the new Qantas Group Pilot Academy.
Mr Hart said “Qantas’s announcement today is an endorsement of everything Launceston and Northern Tasmania has to offer, and most importantly – its potential for the future”.
“I’ve said many times that Launceston’s award winning airport, combined with the University of Tasmania redevelopment and our gigabit NBN, makes Launceston one of the most liveable regional cities in the world, let alone Australia, a region ripe for this project”.
“Nothing exemplifies Qantas’s decision today to shortlist Launceston more than our ability to host, for over 30 years, the southern hemisphere’s preeminent maritime training institutions, the AMC”.
“I’ve had great support for the Qantas Academy in a petition on my website. I invite all Tasmanians to get behind this project,” said Mr Hart.
