Liberal members attack Gutwein for his planning failures

The Liberals and Treasurer Peter Gutwein are under attack from within their own ranks over their failure to deliver a statewide planning scheme.
Former Federal Liberal Candidate for Denison and Hobart Alderman Tanya Denison has lashed out, frustrated that planning approvals for developments equivalent to 161 homes are being tied up in red tape.
Shadow Planning Minister David O’Byrne said clearly there was anger from within Liberal Party ranks with Peter Gutwein’s failure to deliver a statewide planning scheme.
“Peter Gutwein talked a big game from Opposition but the fact is that nearly 4 ½ years into the Liberals being in charge they have not been able to deliver,” Mr O’Byrne said.
“Instead frustrated Liberal Party members are lashing out over a lack of development.
“After a four-year term of failure Mr Gutwein flicked a planning hospital pass to the embattled Roger Jaensch, who has proved just as incapable in planning as he is on housing and child protection.
“Peter Gutwein’s inaction on planning reform is obviously causing friction within the Liberal Party and business and development stakeholders have also raised concerns over his inability to deliver.
“Peter Gutwein has failed to deliver a single economic reform in four years, so it is not surprising that Liberal rank and file are becoming frustrated.
“Peter Gutwein’s CV in Government is hardly a shining audition for the top job that he covets.”

Peter Gutwein’s reform failings
• Failure to deliver statewide planning scheme, abandoning portfolio
• Local Government Reform: Spent millions not achieving a single reform
• TasWater Reform: Abandoned TasWater takeover after failing to make the case to the public
• Only State not to gain decentralised public service jobs from Canberra, despite attempting to lobby for Launceston jobs
• Failed to achieve an underlying budget surplus
• Massive uncertainty over future GST distributions
