When it comes to benefits from the Turnbull government’s planned income tax cuts, the electorate of Lyons is in the bottom 10 electorates in the country.
Stories in today’s media, following the release of the Australia Institute’s report, ‘2018 tax cuts by electorate’, prove that Malcolm Turnbull has abandoned regional Tasmania in favour of his boardroom friends.
‘While, I am not surprised the Prime Minister has chosen to give the biggest tax breaks to the electorates with the most income, it disappoints me that he has chosen to further disadvantage people in regional areas who are already doing it tough,’ Brian Mitchell said.
‘The more you earn, the bigger the tax cut you will receive under this plan of Turnbull’s. A politician getting paid $200,000 a year will receive a tax cut of $7,000, whereas, a person earning $90,000, will only benefit by $500. Where is the fairness in that?’
‘The people of Lyons deserve better treatment from Malcolm Turnbull, and they have every right to feel abandoned by this government,’ said Brian Mitchell.
