HACSU’s scare campaign over child safety officers
HACSU’s scare campaign around child safety officers is extremely disappointing.
The proposed structure will actually result in an increase in Child Safety Officers in the regions working in Case Management and Response teams.
Local knowledge will not be diminished and caseloads are expected to become more manageable.
The move to the Children’s Advice and Referral Service will allow us to deliver support to children as soon as possible by having better conversations with people who have concerns about the wellbeing of children.
The Hodgman Liberal Government has also recently announced an additional $24 million over four years, which will go towards recruiting up to 25 additional Child Safety Officers and other frontline staff.
The Government is in ongoing dialogue with unions and employees about positive reform to better promote the safety and wellbeing of Tasmanian children and their families.
It is extremely disappointing that HACSU has chosen to mislead the public about serious reforms to provide better services to some of the most vulnerable Tasmanians.
