Fuel Reduction Program reaches 500th burn

Posted on

The Hodgman Liberal Government’s Fuel Reduction Program recently reached a significant milestone, conducting the 500th burn.
Under this program the land equivalent of 40,893 football ovals has been burnt in the four years since it began.
The Fuel Reduction Program aims to strategically reduce bushfire risk across the state, with communities and community assets of high risk to bushfire being prioritised to ensure the safety of all Tasmanians.
The statewide bushfire relative risk has been reduced by 4.5% in just four years since the program commenced. This has a direct impact on households as our fuel reduction work, and the sharing of this information with the insurance industry, has resulted in enhanced level of insurance coverage for areas of higher bushfire risk.
The Hodgman Liberal Government has an ambitious target of decreasing the bushfire risk to Tasmanian lives and properties by a further 33 per cent by 2022.
This bold target is on track thanks to our $55 million Fuel Reduction program.
