First 100 days a failure

Posted on

• Despite glossy brochures, Liberals failing to tick key boxes
• Key commitments and ambitions on health abandoned
• Liberals give up on reform aside from low-hanging fruit

Even by the low standards they have set for themselves, the first 100 days of the new Liberal Government have been a failure.
Manager of Opposition Business David O’Byrne said Premier Hodgman set himself an incredibly low bar to jump in his glossy “Building Your Future First Year Agenda”.
“While Premier Hodgman has managed to commence a few studies and investigations and reintroduce failed legislation, key commitments in health have not been met,” Mr O’Byrne said.
“Local hospital leadership positions have not been filled, organisational charts for each hospital have not been released and recruitment for new health workers has not begun.
“Work was supposed to have started by now on 10 new mental health beds at Mistral Place.
“But it is not just short-term targets the Liberals have missed.
“It is worth looking back to what the Liberals promised from Opposition.
“Despite glossy, taxpayer funded brochures to the contrary, the Liberal Government has ticked far fewer boxes than they could or should have.
“Worthy aspirations such as making Tasmania the healthiest state in the nation by 2025 have been abandoned.
“When legislative reform extends beyond low-hanging fruit, the Liberals give up on it.”
