I extend my sincere sympathy and condolences to the wife and family of former Fingal Councillor and Break O’Day Mayor, Robert Legge AM.
Before entering local government, Robert farmed in the Fingal Valley, where his family roots date back to 1826.
Mr Legge served in local government for nearly 50 years, serving as Mayor of Break O’Day for 13 years until his retirement in 2011.
He also served on the Board of the Australian Local Government Association and was a member of the Local Government Association of Tasmania
Robert was known for his hard work and commitment to building a safer and better community. His passion was to motivate others to look to the future and think about tomorrow.
Robert was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 2017 for significant service to the community through roles at the state, national and international level with the Red Cross.
He leaves behind his wife Jean, four children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
