Calming those City Blues
‘Echoes in the Blue’ is the second album from Melbourne band City Calm Down and they have been showcasing it to audiences on their national tour, which this weekend lands in Hobart.
The album includes the single ‘Pride’ which lead singer Jack Bourke, when we chat, says explores how sometimes, due to the weight of our own problems we can sometimes take that frustration out on our loved ones by treating them badly.
‘Echoes in the Blue’ explores many positive emotions such as love and friendship but also can echo a blue tint with the negative side of these such as loss and betrayal and then turn positive again focusing on the themes of redemption and rebirth.
The last time City Calm Down were in Tasmania was September 2016 when they performed at the Falls Festival. Jack tells of his love for Tassie, especially Port Arthur and MONA.
He also tells me that Echoes in the Blue was completed over 18 months with some arrangements taking longer while at other times the album seemed to be writing itself.
Jack says the group is not keen on being pigeon holed or genre-ised. To them it’s all about creating a great song whatever the genre.
