• Yet another broken promise as relocation plan abandoned
• Barnett confirms majority of MRT staff remain in the south
Guy Barnett has given up on his party’s policy to relocate Mineral Resources Tasmania to Burnie.
Mr Barnett has confirmed that the majority of MRT staff remain based at Rosny and the Mornington Core Library.
Shadow Resources Minister Shane Broad said just one staff member actually relocated to Burnie. Nine other staff had to be relocated to other areas of the public service so that their positions at MRT could be readvertised in the North West.
“The Liberals claim to believe in small government but they created new positions in order to fulfil an election promise,” Dr Broad said.
“Today Guy Barnett said the relocation project was nearly complete, despite the fact 25 jobs remain in the South.
“The Government’s own directory lists the Mines Building in Rosny Park as MRT’s headquarters.
“On the 100th day of the new term of the Liberal Government we have had confirmation of yet another broken promise.”
