The Ride documentary comes to Moonah

Posted on

Glenorchy City Council Access Committee is bringing THE RIDE documentary to Moonah Arts Centre on Wednesday 23 May 2018 at 5.30pm. The Ride dispels the stigma of what it means to be disabled and raises awareness about road safety. The public are invited to share in a story about four Aussie blokes who swap their wheelchairs for quad bikes and traverse deep into the outback!

The Ride is a powerful award-winning documentary made by South Australian Producer/Director Sandra Cook. The film follows Jim, Anton, Terry and Craig on a 5000 kilometre adventure as they return to the crash sites where their lives changed forever. It’s a race against time and the elements as they sprint from Perth to Birdsville via Uluru and The Simpson Desert to arrive at the final crash site.

“As a group, we wanted to make a documentary to highlight the potential impact of motor vehicle accidents to your body, family, employment and future potential. We thought this was important because all of us, at one time, had to completely rebuild our lives” says Jim Cairns the Executive Producer of The Ride and one of the featured characters.

With three paraplegics and one quadriplegic, their camaraderie reveals a hilarious insight into the subculture of disability. They openly discuss sex, marriage and catheters.

Access Committee chairperson Tim Marks said he wanted to host a second screening so more local people can see this wonderful film.

“We are pleased to again support this must see event, raising awareness that having a disability does not need to hold you back is an important message for everyone to hear.
“We strongly encourage the community to come and support it,” he said.

Entry is $5 at the door.
