The Tasmanian Liberals’ campaign for commonwealth public service jobs is a failure it seems before it has even started.
The Turnbull Government has left Tasmania off the map again and this time this is despite both State and Federal Liberals lauding their campaign to bring more jobs to Tasmania.
While Darwin, Adelaide, Perth, Shepparton and Wodonga in Victoria, Toowoomba in Queensland, and Dubbo and Parramatta in NSW see Government agencies moving in, Tasmania is left out in the cold.
Just today Federal Member for Bass, Ross Hart told a business gathering that “There is is a golden opportunity for state and federal government to work together to deliver not just decentralisation of public service jobs but also substantial benefits for regional communities”.
When Labor was in Government in 2013 there were 4239 Commonwealth public servants in Tasmania – the latest figures show there are now just 3468.
While I and my Tasmanian Labor colleagues will be fighting to stop further Federal job losses under the Turnbull Government, I would encourage the Tasmanian Liberals to join the fight for Tasmanian jobs.
