Scottsdale irrigation investment welcomed
Federal Member for Bass, Ross Hart MP today welcomed the announcement by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Michael McCormack of $25.27 million of Federal Government funding towards the construction of Tasmania’s proposed Scottsdale Irrigation Scheme.
Member for Bass, Ross Hart said “I am very pleased that the Government has recognised the importance of irrigation to agricultural production in the North East of Tasmania”.
“However, since its election, the Commonwealth has not commenced one major new infrastructure project in Tasmania. Of the $589 million in announcements the Federal Government has only invested $479 million in Tasmania,” Mr Hart said .
Labor laid the groundwork and set in place the framework to allow significant investment in irrigation capacity across Tasmania. It was Labor that made the significant investments in government to allow Tasmania to increase its irrigation capacity; it is very pleasing to see that that process, despite delays in committing capital, is once again delivering real outcomes for Tasmanian irrigators.
“Once again, Tasmania has finally received infrastructure funding which until now has been denied to it under this Government,” Mr Hart said.
