Personal statement in response to the Integrity Commission Report

“There is no place for that kind of incompetence and lack of ethics within the community, business or government, so it is time for those responsible to finally be held to account.”

Today’s release of Operation Pyramid, the Integrity Commission Report into conflicts of interest at Glenorchy City Council, sadly confirms what the community already knew about the past Council’s administration; that ignorance and arrogance ruled supreme.

What occurred was a clear conflict of interest, and that is why the Mayor and I had absolutely no doubt that we needed to make the initial submission to the Integrity Commission.

But what was uncovered was entrenched misconduct, blatant lies and significant personal conflicts that cost the community significantly.

These are the sad hallmarks of a corrupt previous council, and the community have a right to be angry.

While the Council today is left to pick up the pieces of the past, there has been no prosecution of those responsible.

There has been no signal that misconduct is not to be tolerated, and that is deeply disappointing.

A Board of Inquiry, the Auditor General’s report and now and the Integrity Commission’s Report, have all provided evidence of the treacherous past.

There is no place for that kind of incompetence and lack of ethics within the community, business or government, so it is time for those responsible to finally be held to account.
