• A significant rain event may develop across eastern and southern Tasmania on Thursday, Friday and Saturday as a complex low pressure system approaches southeast Australia.
• Possible totals in the eastern and southern areas may reach 50-100mm, Friday is likely to see the highest rainfall for Tasmania with some elevated areas possibly receiving over 150 mm.
• Due to the nature of the complex low, models are showing uncertainty in the final forecast rainfall. Rainfall amounts are likely to change over the coming days as the position of the low becomes more certain.
• There is the possibility of flash flooding or riverine flooding in the east and south on Friday and Saturday. Any warnings required will be issued at www.bom.gov.au/tas/warnings/
• Tasmania will see snow above 1,000 metres on Thursday.

• The record daily rainfall total for Hobart in May is only 47.0 mm, and the 3-day record is only 74.2 mm (18-20 May 1986).
• In total, Hobart has had 29 three-day totals above 100 mm.
• Year-to-date rainfall has been below average on the east coast from Hobart northwards. Most other areas of the state have been close to average.
• Tasmania has had a warm summer and autumn.
