Giving back to those who need it
23 children in Hobart are currently registered to receive a wish from Make-A-Wish Australia.
To grant each of those wishes a dedicated “dream team” of volunteers is pulled together to make sure the young person’s one cherished wish can come true.
This weekend, at the HIA HomeFEST, the Hobart volunteer branch of the national charity, Make-A-Wish Australia will be putting the call out for new volunteers to help grant the wishes of children in Hobart with life threatening medical conditions.
Local volunteer and Hobart branch president Amanda French says that there are a number of opportunities available for people looking to volunteer with the charity
“Our recent ball was coordinating by a volunteer from the community with a professional background in events management. The night would not have been such a huge success without her professional expertise pulling the night together”
Other opportunities to volunteer within the branch include, wish granting, fundraising, social media and public relations and volunteer management.
There are also opportunities for businesses and other organisations to get behind the charity and support the work it does to make the wishes of sick children come true.
HIA have been a huge supporter of Make-A-Wish for a number of years now by selecting us as their charity partner for their successful HomeFEST held annually in Hobart.
Entry to the event is via a gold coin donation with all proceeds coming to Make-A-Wish so that they can continue to grant wishes for children in Hobart.
“There are so many ways businesses can support Make-A-Wish through corporate volunteering, fundraising on behalf of the charity and also by promoting the work we do so that everyone with a child experiencing a life-threatening illness is able to have a wish granted”, said branch president Amanda French.
