Victoria Police have responded to multiple instances of officers being caught on camera beating, pepper spraying and humiliating detainees.
The Age has published 2016 footage of a Victoria Police officer punching and kicking a suspect in the head and stomping on his back as he lies on the ground. Other CCTV footage published by The Age shows six Victoria Police officers beating a mentally ill disability pensioner on the legs with a baton, pepper spraying him while he was pinned down, and filming themselves dousing him with a backyard hose. During the man’s detainment, officers can be heard calling him a “fucking idiot” and asking him “You like that? Smells good, doesn’t it?” as he is pepper sprayed …
