Tasmanians make history on Day 1 of the Commonwealth Games
Congratulations to Jake Birtwhistle, Ariarne Titmus, and Amy Cure for putting Tasmania on the map at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Considered a rising star in triathlons, Jake Birtwhistle took out the first Australian medal of the Games with a silver in the triathlon, with his sights now set on the team relay on Saturday.
Not to be outdone, another Tasmanian rising star Ariarne Titmus took out silver in the 200m freestyle, and fellow Tasmanian Amy Cure brought home Australia’s second gold medal of the games with her team mates while breaking the Commonwealth Games record in the women’s 4000m team pursuit.
To represent our State is a great honour and I am sure all Tasmanians join me in congratulating all athletes to represent our country at such an elite level – they have done Tasmania proud.
