The Independent Member for Denison, Andrew Wilkie, will join West Hobart resident Roberto Di Martino to call for the Hobart City Council to undertake long overdue roadworks on Salvator Road.

“Salvator Road is way overdue for repair,” Mr Wilkie said. “In particular the road needs to be resurfaced and effective line markings put in place.”

“But instead, what should be a simple job has dragged on for years. These issues date back literally decades, with local residents struggling to get anything but a lacklustre response from a succession of councils.

“Not only is the work not being done, but the Council have repeatedly made promises to residents that they don’t keep.

“For example the resealing of Salvator Road was meant to happen in the 2015-16 financial year. When this didn’t happen I personally took residents’ concerns to Council and was told the work would be completed between November 2017 and March 2018. And now here we are in May and the Council has decided that they will push back these repairs yet another year.

“Out of sight out of mind is unacceptable at any time, but especially in this case because the delays to work are also prolonging a hazard to pedestrians. No wonder residents are frustrated and demanding action. I call on the Council to finally get these repairs done to put an end to this saga and make sure that Salvator Road is safe.”
