Beautiful ballet Beyond the Big Land
Soloist Vadim Pakhomov returns to Tasmania this week to perform in the Moscow Ballet La Classique’s production of the much loved ‘The Nutcracker’.
When I spoke to Vadim recently, he told me his first visit to Tasmania was three years ago. He speaks glowingly of ‘the beautiful island beyond the big land.’
Vadim notes the responsibility of being the soloist in this production but feels the warm welcome of the guests or audiences and that this dissipates any fears he might have.
As soloist he realises the focus will be on his movements, many and masterful. The role of dancer intoxicates and infiltrates the protagonists entire life as even away from the stage Vadim is constantly on the move, whether it be cycling, swimming or diving.
Of the perennial popularity of ‘The Nutcracker’ Vadim describes it as ‘an endless love story of the battle of good and evil that has a happy ending’ and ‘that appeals to all ages’. This phrase sums it up well and contains all the ingredients of a mythical story, Good triumphing over evil, love conquering all and living happily ever after and of course the joy of dancing bringing everything together.
