Whether elected in Prosser, or working as an ordinary citizen, Mr Peart will be exploring whether the unique World War Two RAAF fuel depot in Ross is worthy of Tasmanian heritage listing, and how visitor interpretation of the site might be established.

“There could at least be a footpath along the front of the site, with interpretation signs,” Mr Peart said.

Is this site worthy of Tasmanian Heritage listing?

Mr Peart led a visit to the site last Sunday, with images seen on Picture Ross, followed by a few interesting comments ~

There were 31 of these inland fuel depots built around Australia in 1942, when we feared a Japanese invasion, so we could fight from the hills.

The Ross depot is the only one in Tasmania.

“Is this site worth remembering?” Mr Peart asks.

Located next to the heritage township of Ross, the old fuel depot has potential to become one of the attractions of Ross, and be a place where the story of World War Two in Tasmania is told.

Mr Peart wonders if anyone has any photos of the site, especially taken during WWII.

The earliest image found to date is an aerial photo taken in 1947.

This can be one of the matters of interest raised at Mr Peart’s first community meeting in Prosser, held in the Ross Town Hall at 6pm Thursday 26 April.
