Secrecy again on show as Basslink goes down
• No transparency with Tasmanians from the Liberals
• Have the Liberals learned any lessons from the 2016 energy crisis?
• Government secrecy must stop
The Government’s track record of secrecy has again been put on display with a fault to the Basslink cable swept under the rug.
Shadow Energy Minister David O’Byrne said the Energy Minister Guy Barnett has been caught out trying to hide the truth from Tasmanians.
“Guy Barnett has held press conferences since the incident occurred yet left it to Basslink to put out a media release on Wednesday evening to inform Tasmanians that Basslink was down,” Mr O’Byrne said.
“Guy Barnett was obviously trying to keep the news a secret until the Easter break and then hope no one noticed or held him to account.
“Has Guy Barnett briefed the state’s major industrial businesses? What has he been doing since the outage except for trying to hide it?
“If there’s been no consultation with our MIs or investors then it just shows that the Liberals have learned nothing since their 2016 energy crisis.
“The actions of Guy Barnett trying to cover up this outage closely mirror those of Matthew Groom in 2016.
“A Basslink outage is a serious development and of massive public interest.
“The secrecy has to stop. This Government is seriously eroding the trust of Tasmanians.”
