NUS Condemns $5 Billion Tank Purchase

Modeling on the Government’s university cuts has confirmed almost 10,000 students will be deprived access to higher education, while universities face cuts of close to $100 million.

‘The priorities of this Government are heinous,’ said National Union of Students Education Officer Con Karavias. ‘The Liberals are investing in death and destruction while phasing thousands of students out of the university system. Students are preparing to protest the Liberals’ agenda, as we can see that this Government doesn’t have even a skerrick of morality.’

‘The Liberals just couldn’t stop at $3.8 billion in handouts to weapons manufacturers, they had to go ahead and plough an extra $5 billion to the Australian war machine,’ said National Union of Students Ethnocultural Officer Hersha Kadkol. ‘It’s outrageous that the government is spending this money on destruction when it would cost roughly the same amount to make higher education free. The government should expect resistance from students who are not only concerned about the cost of their degrees but are opposed to war.’

Students around Australia will be protesting on Wednesday March 21 for a National Day of Action against cuts to university funding.
